Functional Interiors That Tell Your Story

We wanted the porch to stand out and complement the character of the house, all while sticking to simple, readily available materials. After exploring countless front porch designs, making lists of what we liked and didn’t, and pricing out different options, we landed on cedar for the entire porch—including the railings.

To give it a unique touch that felt true to the house’s era, we asked our contractor to add clover cutouts to the balusters and a double border on the deck platform for an extra-special detail. He did an incredible job—especially considering our house has no straight lines, but you’d never know it. Those finishing details make all the difference, and hiring a contractor who takes the time to get them just right is always worth the investment.

We completed the look with a cozy outdoor sectional and vibrant, colorful cushions from Ikea because, let’s face it, I can’t resist bringing in color and pattern—even outside. The combination of the clover details and those pops of color against the house was absolutely worth the wait.

What we achieved

The front porch was in rough shape—old, falling apart, and long overdue for a makeover. We held off on tackling it right away because we didn’t have a clear vision and didn’t want to invest in something that didn’t feel right. Looking back, I don’t regret the delay. Taking the extra time meant we could plan thoughtfully and allocate the budget to create the porch exactly the way we envisioned.
